Review: Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone by Benjamin Stevenson
A fast-paced whodunit mystery that will have you laughing on the edge of your seat!
Ernest 'Ern' Cunningham is narrating this wild ride of a mystery - bringing you along on the events of a family reunion gone awry. Brimming with witty humor and great clues, in this "locked room mystery" the Cunninghams are thrown into twist after twist, snowed in at a ski resort, and no secrets are safe.
This book was a massive breath of fresh air - I laughed, held my breath, re-read, and laughed some more. I want to share this early on to show how much I enjoyed this book - last winter when Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery arrived on Netflix - I binged it twice in a week I enjoyed it soo much. I felt a sense of despair because I never thought I would see the day - so soon - that I would come across another murder mystery that had me hanging on the edge and laughing my face off.
Even though you're given so much information from the get-go, the pages are packed with drama and plenty of guessing. The character development is mild but it works, especially with this unique family - you get what you need and that's all that matters. The story unfolds in a short span of time so things are happening quickly, perfect for keeping track of all the details to sort through. While this seems like a cozy vibe of a snowed-in ski resort, the harsh elements are apparent and provide the perfect obstacle to any chance of escaping. The mystery must be solved, but who will make it to the end?!
If you're a fan of classic whodunit mysteries this one is for you - Knives Out, Clue, Murder on the Orient Express, and so on. I have nothing but good things to say about this book - it was fun, a fast read, and had me stumped for a good portion of the book. Rating this one 4 stars for the good laughs and a well-written mystery.
