Book Review: The Haar by David Sodergren

A gruesome, yet endearing tale that you'll probably want to finish in one sitting.

The Haar A horror Novel on the Kindle and an Iced Coffee in a pumpkin mug.

A small fishing village, Witchaven, is rapidly being demolished by a big developer who couldn't care less about the elderly population left fighting to keep their homes. Muriel, clinging to her memories, refuses to accept an offer on her property. What happens to her and the others willing to stick it out and stay in their homes?

I am always on the hunt for horror books that surprise the hell out of me, pop off with characters you love and hate, have a solid plot, and soaked in gore. This one checks all the boxes and then some - because you even get a little romantic vibe thrown in the mix, in a disturbing way, but hey it keeps things weird.

Muriel is a badass gma! Holding back for nothing - she just calls it as she sees it, and while she has her own struggles internally, she doesn't let it hold her back from fighting for her home. I was rooting for this lady all the way!

I don't fear death... but they do.

Does Muriel get to keep her forever home or does her lack of fear ruin her in the end? As always this book review is as spoiler-free as I can make it so If you want the gory details you will just have to read this one.

For a shorter horror story - I had a good time and was grossed out all at once. Rated this a 4 because I'll probably continue to try to find more books like this and recommend it to anyone looking for a fun messy read. If you need something eerie, check out my review of Stolen Tongues by Felix Blackwell and see if that fits the bill.
